A pedestrian-automobile crash that occurred at a Towson intersection during the evening on New Year’s Eve claimed the life of a 62-year-old college professor. The motorist that police believe is responsible for the decedent’s hit-and-run death was finally arrested on Feb. 6.
The decedent, a professor that had been visiting the Baltimore area from his home state of Georgia, was reportedly crossing the intersection of Fairmont Avenue and Dulaney Valley Road when he was struck. The incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on the final evening of 2019.
Witnesses reported seeing the motorist that they believed was responsible for causing the crash drive away from the scene in a truck. They didn’t have very much other information to provide police with though.
The chemistry professor didn’t immediately die from being struck by the suspect’s vehicle that night. Paramedics who arrived at the scene of the crash found the man in badly battered and in shock. They ultimately life-flighted him to an area trauma hospital in critical condition.
Doctors performed several operations on him during his nearly two weeks in the hospital. Their efforts weren’t enough to save his life though. The professor died on Jan. 12.
Baltimore County Police Department investigators have spent the bulk of their time since the professor’s passing trying to identify the hit-and-run motorist that allegedly killed him. That investigational legwork resulted in a 34-year-old Marriottsville man’s arrest this past week. The defendant is next slated to have a scheduling conference in his case in Baltimore County District Court on April 29.
